The Celestial Paintings

Between 2017 and 2022, the Sun and the Moon were prominent in much of Paco Pomet’s output, serving as symbolic representations of the perpetual patterns and rhythms that shape our daily lives. By blending these celestial motifs into terrestrial contexts Pomet brings the cosmos into proximity, prompting viewers to look within themselves, rather than gaze upwards, in order to explore their connection with the universe and their place within it. This intensely personal, yet widely resonating perspective evokes questions around themes that are deeply embedded in our collective consciousness: the ebb and flow of time, the interconnectedness of life and death, and the continuity between beginnings and endings.

The Book

The Celestial series marks a defining moment in Paco Pomet’s artistic journey, its influence extending well beyond the years of its creation. To celebrate the lasting resonance of these works, they have been brought together in a single, beautifully produced volume. Celestial, a 112-page clothbound book, brings together a prelude by collector Steve Barding, an engaging conversation between Paco Pomet and writer Sasha Bogojev, and a thoughtful essay by Spanish author Paco Baena. Together, these perspectives offer an intimate and illuminating look at a series that continues to shape and inspire Pomet’s artistic vision.

The Works

“Celestial bodies and stars have fascinated me since I can remember. The Sun and the Moon are an endless source that throw very strong and mysterious statements for us: time, space, duration, darkness, light, beginning, finalisation. Their presence, and the power they have to convey feelings, has no boundaries.”
